The Porsche company was founded by Ferdinand Porsche, who was the chief engineer at Mercedes-Benz. He later incorporated his personal engineering factory, where he had developed numerous designs for the ‘People’s Car’ or popularly known as the ‘Volkswagen’. By 1931, Ferdinand incorporated a company under his own name: ‘Porsche’. In 1947, after WWII, the company returned to producing vehicles and designed a new Grand Prix racing car in Gmund, Austria. A year later, Ferdinand’s son Ferry Porsche built the company’s first sports car, the 356. That very same year, the 356 achieved its first international win: the 1100 CC class. By 1953, the Fuhrman engine was presented in their iconic vehicle, the Porsche 550 Spyder. This 1.5L four-cylinder engine could deliver an impressive 110 BHP and it became an immediate success in the automotive industry. In 1961, Porsche was working on producing a new vehicle which would use a 6-cylinder engine. The body was designed by Ferry’s son, Alexander Porsche. Two years later, the famous Porsche 911 made its debut at the Frankfurt International Automobile Show and the rear air-cooled engine concept was retained). In 1964, the production of the 911 began with its coupe model. The rest, is sports car legend. Porsche has succeeded in producing sports cars that are known for performance, quality, and reliability. Above all, Porsche is acknowledged for producing prestigious sports cars that can be used for everyday driving. Porsche is a marque that Hexagon Classics know extremely well. Porsche 911 GT3 RS – Porsche Great Britain

Time and time again, the cynics would have you believe that the potential of a six-cylinder horizont… Engine Time and time again, the cynics would have you believe that the potential of a six-cylinder horizontally opposed and naturally aspirated engine mounted in the rear has been exhausted. And our engineers? They smile. And prove over and over again the exact opposite. For the new 911 GT3 RS, the specs read as follows: naturally aspirated engine, 4.0-litre displacement, high-revving concept. A maximum power output of 383 kW (520 hp) – 20 hp higher than that of the predecessor model. Maximum torque 470 Nm, i.e. 10 Nm more than before. Up to 9,000 rpm on the rev counter makes it clear what we mean by a high-revving concept. As a result, the new 911 GT3 RS with Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) sprints from 0-62 mph in just 3.2 seconds and top speed isn’t reached until 193 mph. Especially robust and high-performing, the engine is based on that of the 911 GT3 Cup. Also derived from motorsport is the oil supply principle, which uses a separate engine oil tank, fully variable oil pressure pump and an additional supply of oil via the crankshaft. Four valves per cylinder with cam followers and a rigid valve train is another concept matured on the race track. The engine block and cylinder heads are made of aluminium, the titanium connecting rods have been forged and, thanks to VarioCam, the camshaft timing is precisely matched to the engine speed and load. Direct fuel injection (DFI) As far as the efficiency of the engine – and its power output – is concerned, direct fuel injection (DFI) makes a decisive contribution. And it does so with millisecond precision and a pressure of up to 200 bar. For optimum mixture formation and combustion in the combustion chamber. High-revving concept The valves are operated by cam followers – another principle from motorsport. Clearance compensation between the camshafts and valves of the new 911 GT3 RS is realised not by hydraulic means, but by shim plates as part of a solid arrangement. This provides greater robustness as well as enabling remarkably high engine speeds and hard use on the race track. Dry-sump lubrication The way in which oil is supplied to the engine is also successfully proven in motorsport. Continued lubrication is vital, especially at very high engine speeds of up to 9,000 rpm and under the effects of the extremely high lateral and longitudinal acceleration that can be experienced on the race track. Seven scavenge pumps in total return the engine oil quickly and efficiently to the external oil tank. Together with the oil pressure pump offering fully variable displacement, optimum oil pressure is assured in all operating conditions. This system provides reliable lubrication of hard-working components and increases the robustness of the engine under hard use on the race track. The efficient defoaming of the oil by a centrifuge before it is delivered to the separate oil tank is a solution originating in high-performance motorsport and is also used in a similar form in the Porsche 919 Hybrid, an LMP1 class competitor. Intake manifold In interaction with the sports exhaust system, the variable intake manifold in synthetic material and featuring two switchable resonance flaps helps to ensure efficient gas cycles. This results in an impressive torque curve, a high maximum torque and high power output across a broad engine speed range.

Fake Bakkt Website Emerges but Fails to Scam Crypto Investors

A new Bitcoin (BTC) scam website has emerged. Back in 2017, when the cryptocurrency market hit mainstream news, scam sites began blowing up. Since everyone was so desperate to get their hands on digital currency or invest in a project that could give them 10X the return, the scammers often won. Now, cryptocurrency investors are much more cautious, and this new fake Bakkt website was easily identified.

In August of 2018, the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) announced Bakkt would be launched in late-January 2019. ICE currently operates 23 leading global exchanges, including the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).

Bakkt will be a Microsoft cloud-powered “open and regulated” global ecosystem for digital assets. ICE wants to create an integrated platform that enables consumers, merchants, and institutional clients to seamlessly buy, sell, spend, and store cryptocurrencies.

The fake Bakkt website had all the information thus far about the new platform but included a fake date of launch. The website even linked the original blog post from Kelly Loefller regarding the amount of money that was funded for the project.

What makes this website a scam is that it debuts a ‘second’ round of funding for Bakkt that is set to end on February 25th. The website specifically targets “all interested investors who believe in the future of the cryptocurrency market.”

Currently, the fake Bakkt website is on the warning list of MetaMask but is still available. ICE has yet to respond to the reports of the fake website and fake launch date. It remains unknown at this time if the scammers just made up a launch date or if they hacked some inside data and Bakkt is actually set to launch on that date.

It seems the crypto community is on their toes now, but if you’re planning on making any investment in this space, do your research beforehand.

Porsche The new 911 Carrera S

Driver assistance systems, such as Lane Keeping Assist, including traffic sign recognition and Night Vision Assist, make driving even easier. Moving with the times, changing as you go and remaining true to yourself at the same time. A timeless sports car in the best sense. The new 911. Timeless Machine. Design The silhouette of the 911 stands for timeless design. But the new 911 also proves how contemporary it is, especially from behind. The rear end is powerfully, clearly and precisely designed. The rear screen appears visually extended and merges, almost seamlessly, into the black tailgate grille. The new, vertical, third brake light is integrated into this. Directly beneath are the seamless light strip, between the three-dimensional LED taillights, and the newly designed model logo in Light Silver. The rear apron surrounds the newly designed tailpipes of the exhaust system. The new 911 also appears particularly athletic due to the size of the wheels at the front and rear. A design that unites traditional and modern. That ensures more dynamism on the road and causes a sensation for everyone who follows the 911. Viewed from the front, the new 911 tells the story of its past. And reveals much about its own future. The wings are clearly shaped and highlight the powerful geometry and design DNA. The newly designed bonnet with its characteristic dynamic, recess profiles and straight slope to the front apron, is a nod to the 911 models of the first generation. Modern LED technology is used in the main headlights with four-point daytime running lights and dipped beam. The camera and sensors in the comfort and assistance systems are integrated under the front apron. The clarity of the design of the new 911 can be seen in the details. The newly designed exterior mirrors are clear cut, while the lowering door handles are discreetly integrated into the car’s image. Thanks to these details, the overall profile of the new 911 appears more compact, more polished and more technical. Interior Good design should be pioneering and so should technology. The interior of the new 911 is also blazing new trails by reflecting old strengths and expanding new possibilities. All relevant operating controls are located to the left and right of the multifunction sports steering wheel, for great operating comfort and full concentration on the road. Directly in view; the instrument cluster with analogue rev counter and two high-resolution 7-inch displays, provide all the essential car information on virtual instruments. Right beside this the high-resolution 10.9-inch touchscreen display of Porsche Communication Management (PCM) including online navigation. The elevated centre console is decoupled from the dashboard and like the finishes on the dashboard and door panels, underlines the horizontal orientation of the interior. With the Porsche Advanced Cockpit control concept, it now houses only a few touch-sensitive buttons. Above this are five buttons, which have been consciously kept as analogue buttons, for direct access to the essential functions of drive and chassis. Tradition meets future: we don’t see it as a compromise, but as the best of both worlds. From intuitive technology to great comfort. The completely redesigned Sports seats offer secure support even on dynamic cornering manoeuvres. The multifunction sports steering wheel allows for comfortable use of audio, telephone and navigation functions. You notice the feel of the operating controls immediately. Every button, every grip, every air outlet has been carefully considered down to the last detail and to the highest quality. The high-grade feel is highlighted by the finishes in Dark Silver Diamar, or as an option in Light Silver Diamar, brushed aluminium or fine wood. Other leather and finish variations are available upon request. Performance We hear over and over again how the potential of the horizontally opposed engine has been exhausted. Our engineers just smile and then prove it’s not true. The power output and efficiency of the horizontally opposed engine have been once again increased in the new 911. The engine mounts have also been positioned closer to the centre of the vehicle. This reduces vibrations and increases driving stability. But you will still feel the power of the 3.0 litre six-cylinder twin-turbo engine with its 331 kW (450 PS), we promise, the maximum torque of 530 Nm alone will make sure of that. On this basis, the new 911 Carrera 4S reaches 100 km/h (62 mph) with Sport Chrono Package and Launch Control in a mere 3.4 seconds. Top speed is not achieved until 190 mph.With the new standard 8-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK), the power of the engine is transferred even more efficiently to the road and the driving pleasure enhanced. PDK allows extremely fast gear changes without interrupting the flow of power – not even by a millisecond. In comparison to previous generations, the new 8-speed PDK also offers a perceptibly wider middle ground between comfort, performance and efficiency. Porsche Traction Management (PTM) is an essential feature of the 911 Carrera 4S. Working in conjunction with Porsche Stability Management (PSM), the all-wheel drive therefore always ensures the appropriate distribution of force required for excellent driving performance and particularly well-balanced handling when driving at the limit.So what is the possible? A great deal, with a timeless concept and a strong inner drive. Chassis In the new 911, the route itself is the destination. We don’t care where we are going as long as we get there sportily. It’s only then that the 911 is in its element and the chassis is fully involved. Depending on the road conditions and the driving mode, the upgraded Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) actively and continuously controls the damping force for each individual wheel. The result: reduced body movement and thus more comfort with increased dynamism. The PASM sports suspension, lowered by 10mm, is available as an option, making the new 911 even more neutral and balanced when it’s on the road. Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus) provides exceptional traction and great agility at all speeds – with precise steering response and balanced load change behaviour, and tremendous fun on corners. Upon request, Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) minimises body roll in the new 911 during dynamic cornering manoeuvres, and reduces lateral body movement in the vehicle on rough road surfaces. Acceleration, even when decelerating. It sounds like a paradox, but for 70 years its been as important a part of our development work as increasing your heart rate when you start your Porsche. This is particularly relevant for the motorsport-proven Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB). Its ceramic brake discs are particularly light and have a diameter of 410 mm at the front and 390 mm at the rear, for considerable braking performance. Characteristic: the yellow painted fixed brake calipers on the front and rear axles. Just as characteristic: its extraordinary performance for when you need to go slow, fast. Philippines Union Bank Launches Crypto ATMs

One of the Philippines largest banks, Union Bank, is set to launch the first two-way crypto ATMs in the country.

Customers will be able to buy and sell cryptocurrencies for cash through the ATM. The idea is to provide an easy and accessible means for crypto to fiat conversion and vice versa. The move may help to spur on adoption for the digital asset.

Union Bank said the following on the crypto ATMs:

“In the bank’s continued quest to cater to the evolving needs and tastes of customers, including clients who use virtual currency, the ATM will provide these clients an alternative channel to convert their pesos to virtual currency and vice versa.”

The bank has yet to detail which currencies will be supported by the machines. However, it’s safe to predict that Bitcoin will be one.

Philippines and Regulation

The initiative for the crypto ATMs is a result of a collaboration between Union Bank and the Philippines central bank, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).

Since 2017, the BSP has taken a proactive stance towards regulating the cryptocurrency industry. It has been officially regulating local crypto exchanges as remittance companies and further, recognizing digital coins as legitimate payment methods.

The Philippines was among the first countries to regulate cryptocurrencies as a recognized asset class and as a remittance method.

The Philippines has taken a favorable stance towards cryptocurrencies for some years now. Last week, the country’s Cagayan Economic Zone Authority (CEZA) released new regulation guidelines designed to regulate the industry and protect investors. The regulations highlight issues such as the acquisition of crypto assets, including utility and security tokens.

CEZA will now be the main regulator for the Philippines, and the Asia Blockchain and Crypto Association (ABACA) will enforce the new regulations and ensure compliance.

Morgan Creek Digital Secures $40M Backing from Public Pension Funds

According to Bloomberg, renowned digital asset firm Morgan Creek Digital has successfully closed a new $40 million blockchain-specific venture capital fund. It has done this because of major contributions from two US public pensions.

Initially, the venture looked to raise $25 million.

Backed by finance behemoth Morgan Creek Capital, Morgan Creek Digital is a hedge fund. The new venture—called the Morgan Creek Blockchain Opportunities Fund—has been created specifically for investment into the digital asset space.

Pension Plans

The two pension plans are based in Virginia. They are ‘anchor investors’ in the new venture capital fund. Other investors include an insurance company, a university endowment, and a private foundation.

Volatility and Regulations

The sizeable investment into Morgan Creek Digital from the two pension funds is notable. It is a rarity that institutional investors make the leap into the volatile and largely unregulated cryptocurrency market. Precisely because of those reasons, many enthusiasts question if digital assets will ever be adopted on a world-scale. Market manipulation, price volatility, and questionable regulations constantly deter major financial bodies and institutions from backing crypto-related projects or investments.

The Virginia pension funds are two of only a handful of institutions (including Yale University) to invest in the crypto world.

Morgan Creek Digital Innovation

Katherine Molnar, chief investment officer of one of the pension funds, called the investment into the Blockchain Opportunities Fund an “emerging opportunity” offering an “attractive asymmetric return profile.’’

Structured like a traditional venture capital fund, the new fund will invest in the equity of companies in the blockchain and digital assets industry. It will hold a small amount of its wealth in cryptocurrencies.

It works like this:

“Traditional assets will eventually be represented by digital tokens, while the influx of intellectual capital into digital assets will create positive returns.”

The team goes on to explain that “cryptocurrencies are not correlated to traditional assets, giving investors unique exposures.”

Hong Kong blockchain week is right around the corner! Hybrid Summit has decided to host its annual event in China this year. Last year, the blockchain-centered educational event was held in Bangkok Thailand and in 2017, it was held in Studio City, Macau. Hybrid Summit 2019 will be held on March 7th at the AsiaWorld Expo.

Hong Kong blockchain week will kick off on March 4th and will conclude on the 8th. The week starts off with a sunset cocktail hour for VIP ticket holders only. On the 7th, the Hybrid Summit event will kick off, and there are currently nine speakers listed so far. Hybrid Summit is one of two conference events that will be hosted during the Hong Kong Blockchain week.

Headlining the Hybrid Summit event is Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Fundstrat, Thomas Lee. Lee commented on Hybrid Summit saying:

Another big name that will be speaking on the 7th at Hybrid Summit 2019 is Charles Hoskinson. Hoskinson is well known in the blockchain community. He is one of the original co-founders of Ethereum (ETH) and is currently the CEO of Input-Output (IOHK). IOHK is a technology company that is “committed to using peer-to-peer innovations to provide financial services to three billion people who don’t have them.” Currently, IOHK is working on Ethereum Classic (ETC) and Cardano (ADA).

New tyres for historic sports cars

Around 70 per cent of all Porsche models ever built are still in drivable condition today. To satisfy the need for suitable tyres, Porsche has developed, tested and released tyre products that are properly tuned to specific vehicle generations – including tyres released in coordination with Pirelli. The new developments match the historic originals in terms of their look and profile design, but when it comes to driving properties they fulfil the requirements of modern generations of tyres. For model years 1959 through 2005, a total of 32 new tyre recommendations are available for the Porsche model series 356 (B and C), Boxster (986), 911 (G model, 964, 993 and 996) and 914 as well as for the transaxle model series 924, 928, 944 and 968. The classic tyres also have the Porsche “N” certification designator, which identifies them as tyres with special Porsche release. New tyres combine excellent grip with good rolling resistance figures These tyres are not simply reissues of the historic models. Rather they combine the look of the originals with the driving properties of modern tyres. Authentic profile patterns, tyre dimensions and cross-section ratios – from the 1960s to the 1990s – accentuate the exceptionally genuine appearance of historic sports cars from Zuffenhausen. The material composition of the tyres delivers ideal properties in terms of traction and loads. The supporting structure of the tyres matches that of current tyre carcasses. The rubber mixture has additives used in today’s tyre technology. The new tyres combine excellent grip with good rolling resistance figures. Despite excellent wet grip, they are quiet – and therefore they fulfil all vehicle approval criteria of official EU tyre regulations. Thanks to these newly tuned tyres, classic Porsche models can exhibit much more balanced driving properties today. Walter Röhrl offered valuable tips on the driving properties of tyres In tuning the tyres, the Porsche tyre testers also worked together with former rally world champion Walter Röhrl, who was able to offer valuable tips on the driving properties of tyres based on his extensive background of experience with the historic Porsche models. Walter Röhrl summarises the benefits of the tyres, which were re-developed from the ground up, as follows: “The driving properties in the early years were not as full or balanced as they are today. The new generation of tyres is more fitting than ever to the driving style of a challenging sports car.” Porsche tyre tester Dieter Röscheisen discusses the benefits customers can expect from the specially tuned tyres: “The new tyre releases will make it possible for classic models to follow the curve into the modern era with exceptionally good and balanced driving properties.” Pirelli tyres that were available for the current release test series by the Porsche team, in addition to the Pirelli CN36, were the Pirelli P7 and Pirelli Zero Rosso models. Originally, Pirelli P Zero Rosso tyres made contact with the road on Porsche 911 (Type 993) cars from 1994; today these tyres are available again in eleven commonly used sizes. In addition to vintage and classic tyres for normal road use, Porsche has developed special tyres for motorsport use of historic vehicles. For instance, the P Zero Trofeo R that is designed as a semi-slick can be delivered in sizes ranging between 16 and 18 inches. This tyre was specially designed for use in historic motorsport – such as for circuit track or rally racing – and for the high thermal loads that occur. The common designator for all factory releases is an “N” on the tyre sidewall, which is added exclusively to those tyre models that have performed very well in testing before release. To earn this designation, the new tyres must undergo tough testing on Europe’s test tracks and fulfil a total of 33 strictly evaluated criteria. For model years 1959 through 2006 alone, there are currently 161 different recommendations for summer tyres. An additional 131 recommendations for winter tyres round out the programme for the Porsche classic tyres. Including the programme for the popular modern classic cars (911 models 993 and 996), and current models from the past ten model years, the total number of recommendations is 2,200 for all company models and all currently released tyre types.
